About the PAPU

The Plein Air Painters of the Umpqua are a group of artists that meet to paint on locations throughout Southern Oregon.

We have found that painting together creates an atmosphere for learning, builds an appreciation for our surroundings and forms a camaraderie amongst us.

Dealing with the changing light, the unpredictable weather and the occasional visitor/critic are just a few of the challenges of plein air painting. But the skills learned and the memories created make it all worthwhile. Nothing can match the feeling of plein air painting.

While our main objective is to offer opportunities to paint together, we also have exhibited our artwork as a group. In January 2010, the PAPU exhibited at the Umpqua Valley Arts Association. The PAPU also had artwork on display at the Douglas County Library Main Branch the Spring of 2010.

If you are an artist living in Douglas County and would like to join us, please send an email to mail@papu.us. The group is open for beginners to professional artists. You can paint in whatever medium you wish. You can also just sketch or take photos. We currently do not charge a membership fee, but we ask that you are a current member of our local non-profit art center,  Umpqua Valley Arts Association.
