Plans for 2011

Our 2011 painting season will kick off in March. As we did last year, members will sign up to make a month’s worth of schedules.

At an informal potluck and gathering today to share last year’s work, we came up with a few ideas and suggestions for 2011;

Keep locations within a 45 minute drive from Roseburg
Paint at Stanton Park in Canyonville before the end of June so the colors are nicer
Paint at Mildred Kanipe twice during the year
Possibly plan a trip to the coast
Maybe plan on starting at 10 am in the spring when it can be cold and foggy
Paint at the historical house in Yoncalla
Do a late afternoon paint out combined with a potluck

Also, be sure to mark July 14 and 15 on the calendar for UVAA’s Plein Air Event.

Golden Photos

On Monday, July 12 the PAPU painted at Golden, a ghost town a few miles outside of Wolf Creek. It was the perfect day for painting, beautiful clear skies with a slight breeze. Here are some photos of the day.

March Paint Outs

The painting location for Monday, March 15 will be Coles Valley Cemetery. There are nice views of surrounding fields and farmland. There are no bathrooms at the cemetery, but there are bathrooms nearby at Henry Estate Winery or Umpqua Boat Landing.

The location for Monday, March 22 will be Paris Orchards right before Singleton Park on N. Curry Rd. The Peach and Nectarine Trees are blooming, hopefully they’ll hold their pink color until Monday. I thought they were just starting to bloom, but when I called Mr. Paris he said they were ’bout done. There is not a lot of parking, but we’ll be able to pull off the side of the road. And there are bathrooms right down the road at Singleton Park. To get there, go out Garden Valley Rd. about 3 miles past Bi-Mart. Turn left on Curry Rd. Continue for 1.5 miles and turn right on N. Curry Rd. About half-way to Singleton, you’ll see some pink trees on the right. There are a couple of small barns as well. And you could paint the river scene at Singleton. The cherry trees will be blooming next so maybe we can catch some of those in a couple of weeks at Shady Lane Orchards.

Plans for 2010

We have big plans for painting in 2010! The group decided at our recent meeting to venture out a little further once a month. We have lots of great ideas including painting at the coast, the upper North Umpqua and many other great spots! We also talked about linking up with other Oregon plein air groups.

As far as our schedule goes, we’re asking members to sign up to create one month’s of locations. We still need people to sign up for the months of July, September and October.

After our meeting, we went to the Duck Pond and got in a few hours of painting. It was good to be outdoors painting again!

Meeting on Monday, March 1

Since Monday is the day to pick up artwork, let’s have a quick meeting at UVAA at 9 am. We can discuss the schedule for March.

Then, weather permitting, we’ll go out and paint someplace close by, maybe the Duck Pond.
